This is an introduced species in India in 1940s. It
was introduced to degraded and drought-prone Purulia (Weste Bengal) for
vegetation restoration and soil conservation.
This species is harmful for the soil health through
reduction of soil moisture, soil fertility, atmospheric moisture, and
undergrowth (Mahato & Jana, 2021).
A
tree reaches to the height of 40 ft tall. The leaves (which rarely appear)
bipinnate, each pinnae has 20 to 40 pairs of small leaflets. The leaflets are
oblong in shape and typically measure about 1-2 cm in length. The flowers are bright
yellow, and are arranged in cylindrical spikes or racemes. Inflorescence is 2-6
cm long.
