It is believed to have originated in the highlands of Ethiopia,
specifically in the region of ‘Kaffa’, which is where its name may have

Budan introduced coffee beans from Yemen to the hills of Chikmagalur in
Karnataka. Subsequently, coffee plantations have taken root in this region and
expanded southward into Kodagu (Wild Anthony, 1995).
