Perennials. Culms tufted, terete, 6-15 m. high, erect; nodes hardly raised with usually a ring of brown hairs. Leaves linear-lanceolate, apex twisted. Panicle large, with clusters of spikelets. 

Flowering and Fruiting: Rare, once in 20 years.
