The plant is state tree of West
Bengal and there it is known by name ‘Chhatim’.
The trees are usually planted along roadside as avenue plants which grows up to 40 ft. The branches are distinctly covered with pale to yellow lenticels. The leaves in whorls of 5-7, green on upper surface and glaucous on lower surface. The flowers are white, tubular, up to 1 cm long. The fruits are follicle, slender, up to 30 cm long. In higher doses the plant shows toxic properties
